Addington SEN School, Reading
Architectural project for Special Educational Needs School
This Special Educational Needs (SEN) school provides facilities for 300 pupils and staff. The school is an inspiring organisation that has impressive ambitions for pupils. The building’s design has equally ambitious objectives for quality and content. It includes indoor sports facilities, a number of multi-use games areas, sensory rooms and a hydrotherapy pool, with special emphasis on music therapies and sensory stimulation.
This project achieved a very good Breeam rating and has excellent thermal properties, creating a stable environment. It uses night time cooling through passive and driven ventilation, designed as a result of the highly demanding acoustic environment.
