The Brooks House
Architectural Designs for a Self-Build Project
This self-build project was designed to replace an existing 1950’s Colt bungalow on a very tight site with a new low carbon, energy efficient, single storey dwelling. The building is clad with cedar and has a pitched zinc roof. Full height glazing extends along the South elevation to optimise natural light with sun shading to moderate solar gain to the open living accommodation. This sliding glazing opens up the full length of the rear elevation to extend the internal family space into the garden.
A ground source heat pump combined with underfloor heating and high levels of insulation create an efficient and stable environment with passive ventilation to keep the environment balanced.
